Bandipora 28 November (KNB): The first phase of DDC Elections and Panchayat By-Elections witnesses an overwhelming response with people coming out in large numbers to exercise their franchise braving chilling cold.
As per the reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau, the district recorded an overall poll percentage of 43.57 percent. Three DDC constituencies- Tulail Gurez and Sumbal went for polls in Phase-I on Saturday besides 6 sarpanch and 37 Panch seats in Panchayat By-elections. 50 Panchs were elected unopposed in Phase-I.
Tulail block in Gurez Valley recorded highest poll percentage of 53.99 percent while Sumbal recorded 48.88 and Gurez Block witnessed 27.07 percent polling.
The voters today sealed the fate of 21 candidates in ballot boxes for three DDC constituencies while 16 candidates are also in fray for 6 Panchayat seats and 79 candidates are in fray for 37 Panch seats.
Officials stated that the polls concluded peacefully and no untoward incident was reported anywhere in the district.
They added that adequate arrangements were put in place by the district administration to ensure smooth conduct of polls.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir along with SDM Sumbal inspected several polling stations in Sumbal and took stock of the arrangements put in place for smooth conduct of the polls. (KNB)
