Srinagar, Friday 02 Oct(KNB): Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) observed “Swachhta Day” today on 2nd October as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) commemorated on Gandhi Jayanti.
Director SKIMS & EOSG Dr A.G Ahangar inaugurated the function & outlined the significance of cleanliness in and around the health care Institutions like SKIMS and the environs otherwise. He complimented the staff members at all carders in SKIMS who have put in their best of efforts to realize the goals of this “Dream Institution” with special reference to the services by sanitation and security departments supported by the administration because of which this Institution was awarded earlier this year for the standards of cleanliness from Srinagar Municipal Corporation as “Swachh Hospital” on Jan 01, 2020. He administered the “Swachhta Pledge” to all participants which included faculty, sectional heads and other administrative staff.
Director SKIMS while speaking on the occasion appreciated the sanitation department which he said is vital service area of the hospital and plays significant role in maintaining cleanliness of the hospital to control spread of various infections. He stressed that SKIMS being the leading Institute of the country must also take lead in this mission and maintain cleanliness of the hospital to the satisfaction of the patients. Education and awareness on cleanliness is more relevant in prevailing Pandemic-COVID 19 where hand hygiene and other cleanliness measures are basic and only tool at present to fight this infectious disease, he added.
Dean Medical faculty SKIMS, HOD Hospital Administration & Incharge Sanitation and Chief Engineer SKIMS also spoke on the occasion. Later the function was followed by cleanliness activities in and around SKIMS premises that was attended by a team from Srinagar Municipal Corporation as well. The participants realized the importance of this day to be a regular Annual feature with sanitation related flagship programs in the course.
