25 years on, Kahipora villagers under threat due to low lying Electric wires

Handwara, March 15(KNB): Inhabitants of Kahipora Qaziabad village area of Handwara of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District aghast over Power Development Department (PDD) officials of exposing the life and property of the people to risk posed by low lying electric wires in the area.

Locals while talking to Kashmir News Bureau said, “We are here living under dire circumstances from last 25 years under constant threat due to the low lying Electric wires tied with Wellow trees and popular trees, the electric wires are hanging barely four to five feet above the ground level and are threat to residents while during rain and snow the risk is more”

Despite complaining repeatedly to the PDD officials, no action has been taken, they further said.

Some of the Electric lines touch to the roofs of houses posing grave threat to Human lives, said a resident of Kahipora village Haji Mohd Maqbool Dar.

Another local, Abdul Hameed Bhat talking to Kashmir News Bureau, said “Due to the low lying electric lines and decayed wooden poles, we are not properly doing our work even so many incidents had happened in past years. Our village is totally divided on political sidelines,”

He further said, “We request to the Executive Engineer PDD Handwara Mr Farooq Ahmad and DC Kupwara to replace the decayed wooden poles, Electric lines from our village besides we demand to provide us iron poles and new Transmission
Electric lines, if not then we will move to Higher Authorities for further actions”.(KNB)
