Srinagar 13 March(KNB): A 2-Day National Seminar on Creating inclusive and Sustainable Urban Spaces: Urbanisation and urban planning in india with special reference to Kashmir began today at University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau that the Seminar, coordinated by noted author and political scientist Dr. Aijaz Ashraf Wani, is being organized by the Department of Political Science from 13th to 14th March.
The Inaugural Session was conducted at Gandhi Bhavan, and was presided over by Prof. Nilofar Khan, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir. Prof. Debolina Kundu, Professor at the National Institute of Urban Affairs, India, while delivering the Key Note Address highlighted the challenges of Urban Planning in India and underlined the vision of the Government for the cities in India.
Athar Aamir Khan, IAS, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Chief Executive Officer, Srinagar Smart-City Mission, highlighted various measures of Planning and Development of Srinagar as Smart-City.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar of the University, emphasised on the Inclusion of the concerns of academic institutions like NIT Srinagar and University of Kashmir in the plans of Smart-City Mission. Prof. Peerzada Irshad Ahmad Shah formally welcomed the Guests, and Dr Aijaz Ashraf Wani spoke about the Scope of the Seminar.
The Proceedings of the Inaugural Session were conducted by Dr. Javid Ahmad Dar and Dr. Anjum Ara Shameem presented the Vote of Thanks. The Seminar is being attended by dozens of Policy Makers, Planners, and hundreds of students and scholars.
More than two dozen research papers will be read and deliberated in the Two-Day Seminar which is being sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, statement reads.(KNB)
