13 Covid Patients Killed in Maharashtra Hospital Fire; PM Condole Deaths, Approves Ex-gratia

Srinagar 23 April (KNB): In a massive fire incident at a hospital in Palghar district of Maharashtra on Friday, 13 Covid-19 patients were killed while several others got injured.

As per officials the Fire broke out around 3 am in the morning in the ICU of Vijay Vallabh Hospital in Virar area of the district, where 17 patients were undergoing treatment at the time of incident.

Officials said that 13 patients got killed in the unfortunate incident while several others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to other hospital for treatment.

It is suspected that the massive fire–which engulfed other wards within no time–broke out in the ICU due to short-circuit.

Moreover, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has condoled deaths due to fire in COVID-19 hospital in Virar. He wished early recovery for the injured and also approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives in the incident.

The PM also said that Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.

Pertinent to mention that on Wednesday 22 Covid-19 patients died at Dr. Zakir Hussain NMC in Maharashtra’s Nashik due to oxygen leak.

Moreover, amid the second wave, Maharashtra is witnessing an unprecedented surge in novel coronavirus infections. Over 67,000 cases were reported in last 24 hours. (KNB)
