Srinagar 07 Jan (KNB): The Publishers of the various non-empaneled Newspapers of Kashmir Valley appealed the Governor Satyapal Malik for consideration of empanelment of their newspapers.
They said they were genuinely publishing their newspapers from last many years but till date no empanelment was done.
To add salt to wounds of hard efforts of well-meant publishers the government is not undertaking the meetings in regular manner with reference to empanelment of Newspapers and weeklies.
The last meeting organised by the empanelment committee was held back in the regime of PDP – BJP in the year 2016-17 in which various local daily newspapers , the weekly magazines and journals were not considered for the empanelment due to various circumstances.
During the damaging flood of 2014 which wreaked havoc on economy, the newspaper sector was badly affected including offices in Press enclave and its adjacent areas, while the various newspaper owners were not able to maintain the criteria for empanelment by the information department.
The Kashmir scenario weekly maintaining its regularity for more than half a decade was badly hit during floods which adversely affected its publication and regularity and there are many other such publications being affected.
The editors urge the government to have logical and considerate attention and have meeting of empanelment committee.
While talking to KNB, Sanam Ajaz said, ” the empanelment committee should be held properly on time to discuss the grievances of the media , these meetings act as breather for the media company but unfortunately in our valley are usually skipped without any geniune reasons ,,
Editor in chief of the weekly newspaper “Kashmir Scenario” Malik Sajid and scores others urged Governor Satyapal Malik to have keen look into this burning demand and convene immediately the meeting of the empanelment committee and look into the genuine upliftment of print media industry in Kashmir valley.
